MUSIC + MAJESTY @ The Painted Hall
Time & Location
About the Event
In partnership with the Old Royal Naval College and Opera Prelude, join us for a classical concert with harpsichord and Baroque Ensemble, celebrating the restoration of The Painted Hall. The evening's programme will explore our musical heritage and how the monarchy shaped the history of British music.
The Painted Hall is one of the most spectacular and important baroque interiors in Europe. Its ceiling and wall decorations were conceived and executed by the British artist Sir James Thornhill between 1707 and 1726 at the pivotal moment when the United Kingdom was created and became a dominant power in Europe.
Opera Prelude are passionate about bringing opera to new audiences and their events introduce you to their young artists and their craft. Their aim is to support the early career development of young artists, showcasing their talents whilst advancing the understanding and accessibility of opera, and they believe that opera is for everyone. They work closely with musicologists and heritage curators to tailor unique events and we are delighted to be able to offer this exceptional concert at such an iconic Greenwich venue.
Tickets are available by visiting the The Old Royal Naval College Box Office website - please book early to avoid disappointment!
The evening presents four historical vignettes, each brought alive by a spoken introduction followed by arias performed by Opera Prelude artists and musicians. The full programme will be announced soon.
